Microphone
Pianivu asks for the microphone only when you choose to play on your own piano. While you play, the sound is analysed on your phone to recognise the notes. It is never uploaded and never stored: no recording is kept, on the phone or anywhere else. No ad is requested while the microphone is listening. You can withdraw the permission at any time in Android's settings; the screen keyboard and MIDI keyboards keep working without it.
Your progress
Lessons you finished, your results, the practice calendar and your settings are stored on your phone. There is no account and no sign-in. If Android backup is turned on, this data is included in your phone's backup to your Google account, as with other apps. Uninstalling the app or clearing its data deletes it from the phone.
Pieces and downloads
The list of pieces, the scores and today's piece come from Pianivu's server. When the app asks for them, the server receives the request (for example which piece to download, or the level used to pick today's piece) and your IP address, as any server does with a request.
Each request also carries a random code that the app creates when it is installed, and the app asks Google Play to confirm that it is the genuine app from Google Play. Both are used only to deliver files to genuine copies of the app and to limit how many requests one installation can make. The code is not linked to you, your Google account or your advertising ID, and a reinstall creates a new one. The server keeps no account, no progress and no record of what you play or download tied to you or your device.
Advertising
Pianivu is free and shows ads through Google AdMob. To show ads, measure them and prevent fraud, Google's ad software in the app collects device identifiers (such as the advertising ID), approximate location derived from your IP address, and information about how you interact with the ads and how the app performs. This data is collected by Google, not by the developer, and handled under Google's privacy policy. How Google uses information from apps that use its services is described at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Where the law requires it (in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and US states with their own privacy laws), the app asks for your choice with Google's consent form before any ad is requested, and you can change it later from the privacy choices entry in the app's settings. You can reset or delete your advertising ID in Android's settings.
Reminder, MIDI and crashes
- Reminder: off until you turn it on. Notifications permission is requested only then, and the reminder is scheduled on the phone.
- MIDI keyboards connect directly to your phone over USB or Bluetooth. Nothing about the device or what you play on it is sent to the developer.
- Crashes: the app sends no crash or error reports of its own. If you allowed Android to share usage and diagnostics with app developers, Google Play may pass reports of app crashes to the developer.
What is not collected
No name, e-mail address, contacts, photos, files, location from GPS, or audio. No analytics of the developer's own. Nothing is sold.
Children
Pianivu is made for teens and adults and is not directed at children under 13.
